LABORATORY of Avian Clinical Microbiology

This laboratory combines the diagnosis center of animal diseases of our university with the focus on the diagnosis and treatment of important poultry pathogenic microorganisms diseases, including the monitoring, diagnosis, pathogenic mechanism research, prevention and treatment, in order to provide industrial practical applications and solve poultry disease problems. This laboratory guides the students of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the university to conduct basic training in the diagnosis and treatment of poultry clinical diseases, and provides practical topic research and guidance. Research directions include Viral surveillance on avian influenza in wild bird, Molecular typing and epidemiology in chicken infectious bronchitis in south of Taiwan, Efficacy analysis of vaccine of Marek’s disease against virulent wild strains, Infectious bacteria analysis of foot pad dermatitis in chicken, Drug resistance gene of E.coli in different kind of chickens, Newly developed herbal medicine research for poultry diseases, etc. The services for the agricultural industry include: Poultry disease diagnosis and consultation services, Avian influenza virus detection service in exporting birds (laboratories designated by the Animal and Plant Quarantine and Quarantine Bureau of the COA), and the implementation of active surveillance on avian influenza in poultry farms by molecular method (our lab was qualified with national laboratories and designated). In recent years, the entrusted cases undertaken by this laboratory come from several companies such as Jinchang Biotechnology Company, Schweitzer Biotech Company Ltd., King’s Ground Biotech Co., Ltd, Synbio Tech Inc., Yonghong Biotechnology Company, etc . This laboratory participates in academic cooperation research including the Central Academy of Sciences The Taiwan Herbal Biotechnology Platform (THMB) established by Sun Yat-sen University conducts research and development cooperation in poultry industry applications.

家禽臨床微生物學研究室

本研究室結合本校動物疾病診斷中心，以診療及研究重要家禽病原微生物為主，包括家禽病原微生物之監測、診斷、致病機轉研究、預防及治療等，以提供產業實務應用，解決疾病問題。本研究室指導本校獸醫學系大學部學生從事家禽臨床疾病診療基礎訓練，並提供實務專題研究及指導，研究方向包括禽流感野鳥監測、台灣雞傳染性支氣管炎病毒分型及分子流行病學研究、雞馬立克病疫苗效力與野毒保護分析、雞爪腳墊皮膚炎之感染菌分析、雞大腸桿菌抗藥基因研究、新開發草藥應用於家禽疾病之研究等。教學方面，以教授獸醫病毒學及禽病學為主，以及其他課程如獸醫免疫學及獸醫細菌學等。對於農產業界的服務包括家禽疾病診療與諮詢服務、農委會動植物防疫檢疫局指定之輸出鳥類家禽流行性感冒檢驗服務實驗室、執行農委會禽流感主動監測之病毒分子檢測比對合格之計畫委託實驗室。近年與產業界委託暨合作之廠商如戉昌生技公司、福又達生技公司、京冠生技公司、生合生物科技公司等，並參與中央研究院暨中山大學成立之台灣草藥生技平台(THMB)研發合作。
